The Manuscripts
Facsimiles of medieval and contemporary manuscripts have now been produced by the AFSP since 2019.
The Manuscripts
Far from the parietal art already mastered, the AFSP took charge of the reproduction of four manuscript pages from the Middle Ages on very fine vegetal parchment and three other more recent manuscript pages on Japanese paper. After a study of the production of these texts, these unpublished reproductions served as support for an exhibition concerning the History of the Abbey of Fleury in Saint-Benoît-sur-Loire (45), inaugurated on November 9, 2019 at the “Belvédère” , Interpretation Center of Saint-Benoît-sur-Loire. In addition to these four medieval pages, the Atelier has produced three other pages of facsimiles: a poetic text, from the beginning of the 20th century, by the famous modernist poet and novelist Max Jacob, one of the precursors of the Dada movement and of Surrealism and who lived in very close connection with the Abbaye de Fleury.
Facsimile of a Life of Saint Benedict At the request of the Departmental Archives of Loiret, the Workshop produced a facsimile of a Life of Saint Benedict, an 11th century manuscript in parchment. The manuscript is illuminated; regularly shown to visitors, it has been noticed in recent years that, in addition to the frequent manipulation damaging this manuscript, the golds of the illuminations began to oxidize due to the light. To continue to show this work while preserving it, the Archives wanted to make a copy of the original.
